Which one determines your character — the worst thing you’ve done or the worst thing you’ve thought of doing?
The Drama puts this question on full display. The main characters Emma and Charlie have to navigate this question while preparing for their wedding a week away. Beyond the questions of character, it also challenges the audience to explore which actions are forgivable and which ones are too big for atonement.
Both Zendaya and Robert Pattinson deliver superb performances. There is some serious subject matter that must be handled delicately and I think the film does a pretty good job at toeing the line between provocation and consideration of the audience. An extremely nuanced film that’s definitely worth the watch in theaters.
Overall takeaway: Maybe have a few sessions of “we listen and we don’t judge” early in the dating stage before deciding to marry someone.
Assumed Villain: Emma

Why: Her secret is quite disturbing and jarring. Without giving a spoiler, it makes you question her mental state and possible propensity for violence. But without knowledge of this secret, none of those things would've ever been questioned. Plus, the original intention never manifested. Is there a statute of limitations on how long you can hold someone's thoughts against them?
Actual Villain: Rachel

Why? She ACTUALLY did a terrible thing and still attempted to project some moral superiority trope because she didn't feel impacted by the worse thing she's done. However, her actions have caused harm to a vulnerable person. She only cared about Emma's secret because she was triggered by someone else's experience. Instead of damning someone because of their thoughts, let's address the real skeleton in your closet.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
